UVA's football team has successfully started out this year almost as shitty as possible. They got killed by Pitt, much to my parents' incredible dismay. They beat Wyoming...barely, due to something UVA had no control over. They lost to WESTERN FUCKING MICHIGAN of the MAC. UVA has yet to score first. UVA's team is shit and Al Groh is ass. I considered buying Jim and I tickets for the North Carolina game...but LOL. LOL to the max. No thanks.
There is, of course, a big rivalry between Tech and UVA. Obviously I think UVA is a far, far, far, far superior college or I would have attended Tech instead. I came here for the academics and not the football. I mean, who the fuck goes to a college for its football? Can you get a degree in football? So NEWAYZ I basically just accept that, while UVA has had the capability to rival Tech, that's just simply not the case. Tech has a better team. Other Cavaliers, however, can't accept it. It is a college full of incredibly competitive, elitist people (even myself) who always want to be the best. When they are not the best...they cannot seem to see or accept it sometimes.
This seems to be more true of the Cavalier fans and alumni.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard the combination of A: someone saying Tech's football team is better, followed by B: someone retorting by saying that X about UVA is better so who cares anyway? UVA is a better school for academics, adoy, and a better college overall. But that's not the issue.
Best example yet: (overheard)
Guy 1: Blahblah Virginia's football team is terrible this year. Absolutely atrocious. Tech is going to kill them.
Guy 2: At least our students know how to read.
I laughed really hard...but still. The college pride here borders on absurd. If there's one thing I've noticed it's that students will criticize the University for a variety of reasons. They'll bitch amongst themselves about this and that, whine and moan. But GOD FORBID someone OUTSIDE the University criticize it. The students prickle like a cactus garden and shoot out poisonous ink like octopi. Seriously, I've seen it.
Tech's football program is superior to UVA's. Can't we all just admit that? We will keep our diplomas and they can have their football season. Isn't that the humane thing to do?
Oh hey btw did you know that Thomas Jefferson founded UVA?
(Oh and wtf, someone asked me if that video in my last post was D.C. No, that's UVA. The best looking thing about D.C. is Bush's sexy ass and he's out of town for the moment.)
